Job Purpose:
The Network Engineer I reports directly to the Professional Services Manager. The Network Engineer I role is to ensure the stability and integrity of data, voice, and wireless network services. The Network Engineer I is responsible for planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer I will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. The Network Engineer I will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide detailed resolution information.
Essential Job Functions:
:Understands and follows the implementation plan that is received from the Sr. Engineer.
:Collaborates with Sr. Engineers and Project Managers to assess project details, as required.
:Maintains a billable percentage of 80 per quarter.
:Focuses on an assigned discipline within our technical offering (i.e. VoIP, video, security, network management, remote access, routing).
:Assists with gathering information that may be used in scopes of work and Bills of Material as required to assist Pre:Sales (using MS Word, Project and Excel).
:Develops design schematics for both Pre and Post Sales (using Visio, MS PowerPoint and sketches).
:Assists with attaining quick problem resolution during implementation and/or troubleshooting of systems. (Using the prepaid agreements and manuals that NIC has collected and subscribed to).
:Performs the scopes of work as detailed in the implementation plans assigned. (System builds, test plans, documentation, training, etc.)
:Utilizes products correctly and to the degree required by the customers and manufacturer.
:Files all appropriate documentation and appropriate reports as assigned.
:Provides general support for Sr. Engineer and Management requests.
:Provides network Engineering support as required for both internal and customer facing issues.
:Provides general analyses on network interoperability topologies, technologies, interfaces, and protocols.
:Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
:Maintains a written list of all uncompleted tasks.
:Completes task coded time sheet on a timely basis.
:Responds to all customers courteously and relay any customer questions or concerns to your supervisor.
:Refers to our Code of Conduct when working on site with a customer.
:Attends required meetings for collaboration and communication efforts.
:Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards and safety rules.
:Performs other duties as assigned and directed.
:Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet customer deadlines (including: early morning, late nights, or overnight visits)
:May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines or to fulfill travel obligations.
:Bachelors Degree (B.A.) in technology from four:year college or university
:2:4 years of experience as a
network/communication engineer in complex telecommunications applications involving all phases of telecommunications network design, implementation and analysis.
:Equivalent combination of education/job experience
General: Ability to multi:task, prioritize, organize, solve problems, and complete tasks independently or in a team:oriented environment; ability to follow verbal and written instructions, to maintain the confidentiality of data and to accept constructive criticism.
Personal: Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication skills and customer service orientation; ability to present ideas in business:friendly and user:friendly language; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high:pressure environ
