Job Description:/h3:
Provides a variety of communications support to the Air Traffic Control facility and Range Control in various locations. Support includes inspection, testing, repair, and replacement of commercial and military communications systems. Equipment supported must comply with military standards, FCC standards, and FAA standards. Install, operate, and maintain prototype system components. Provide maintenance support of FAA Digital Voice Recording system and Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch.
Read, interpret, and understand schematics, electrical drawings, and circuit diagrams to analyze, troubleshoot, repair or modify, and install communications systems.
Perform organizational, direct, and general support maintenance on commercial and military communications systems.
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on communications equipment IAW FCC and FAA/Military regulations.
Perform troubleshooting and testing of communications equipment.
Perform diagnostic tests with appropriate test equipment on the various communications systems and equipment.
Install and maintain various
commercial/military communications equipment on vehicles and at fixed and remote sites.
Maintain a ground:to:air two:way communications system at BLAAF, C2, Live Fire facility, DTOC, and remote sites.
Maintain Air Force Metro radios, Automated Terminal Information System (ATIS) radios.
Monitor and maintain proper operation of assigned frequencies, power levels, modulation levels, and receiver sensitivities together with system audio levels.
Maintain an inventory of fully operational secondary communications equipment.
Provide 24:hour on:call emergency maintenance.
Perform installation and maintenance on antenna towers in excess of 100 feet.
Fly in various types of civilian and military helicopters to remote radio sites on mountain tops.
Collect and maintain maintenance and supply inventory data.
Maintain database and provide written reports on data collected.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and quality standards.
Education and Experience: Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering or three (3) years of verifiable experience in inspection, testing, repair and maintenance of
communication/electrical systems.
Specific Knowledge: Use and maintenance actions on FM, VHF, UHF, and other communications equipment. Knowledge of the military maintenance manuals to include inspections, preventative maintenance, testing, repair/replacement of components and equipment and forms and records management. Thorough knowledge of diagnostic, troubleshooting, adjustment and repair of electronic equipment.

Licenses: Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance. Must possess a valid California Drivers license.
Skills Required: Demonstrated ability/skill to use diagnostic and test equipment on specific combat tactical, commercial communications, and prototype systems; IAW technical manuals and developmental system guide documents. Proper use of power tools, hand tools, test equipment, and computers.
Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Must be able to read, interpret, and understand schematics, circuit diagrams, and electronics specifications data. Must possess the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and work with minimal supervision.
Physical/Mental Abilities: Use of good judgment and common sense when performing job functions. Able to comprehend, interpret, and apply technical information from manuals, updates, modification work orders, FCC and FAA circulars. Must possess the ability to be punctual. Must not have a fear of heights or flying.
